Dear Governors and Officers: 這次11月11日早上11點在大甲鎮瀾宮文化大樓一樓舉行的中華民國國際演講會會員代表大會，有一個分會會長提出「以後不要讓任何經選舉上任的公職人員上台致詞」的動議。總會長表示，為了要讓國際演講會在台灣擴大，必須放開心胸，「大節不逾矩，小節出入可也」。這次上台致詞的人都有遵守諾言，不提時政。尤其其中還有人是國際演講會的會員，沒理由叫他們不上台。台灣總會長要秘書長把這個動議納入下次4月27日會員代表大會表決。但提議的分會會長表現情緒激動，堅持當場表決，會議不歡而散。會後，我在茶水間私下單獨與台灣總會長談起，我試著揣摩他的心意，因為幸運說中了，使他願意向我分享他的想法：1.現在在台灣報出中華民國國際演講會的名號，很少人知道，在許多機關更是沒有人理你。有些組織到台灣不過數年，但發展數倍於本會。2.電視廣告短短三十秒要價上百萬的經費。

關於7月25日meeting有很大的進步：1. Sierra進步很多。不但服裝儀容端莊增加自信心外。用字也很精確。簡直不敢相信聽到 insolate這個精確的字，in-so-late的in是「在裡面」，so是拉丁文的「太陽」，late是動詞字尾。及物動詞，意思是太陽曝曬。The sun is insolating Taiwan.太陽曬台灣。還很奇妙，她在別的句子用相似的字solarize取代insolate. 這些都是精確的字，符合C4的要求。要注意一下insolate和insulate的發音相近，意思大不同，所以-so-咬字要咬清楚。Sierra的咬字相當清楚。不易產生誤解。我聽的是和insulate的發音類似，又很像isolate的發音。這就是正確發音。北極熊（polar bear)溺死用drown，冰原用glacier(這裡Sierra的發音是glei-si-er,正確發音是

這次讀書會可能我無法參加。但因為講到911,有些字來分享一下：文章提到大屠殺用的字是：carnage，當名詞用。首先，我們必須分辨一下字形。barn是穀倉，當名詞。garner是動詞，把穀物放入穀倉。這樣這三個字就不會扯在一起了。然後我們來看看屠殺的名詞的精確定義：1.massacre:這個字是拿武器一個一個殺，如南京大屠殺，或是上一次韓國學生在大學的屠殺的新聞報導用的名詞。2.cull: 查字典查不到有屠殺的意思吧。這個字用來指有選擇性的屠殺，如新聞報導「禽流感」發生後，可疑家禽的集體屠殺就是用這個名詞。3.slaughter:可指各種屠殺。比較廣義。4.carnage:這個字在本次閱讀文章出現。一般指用砲，炸彈等一次殺很多人的屠殺。一般會看到砲火慘烈壯觀，比較沒有massacre那種血淋淋的場面。不過傷亡人數可能大多了。上面字的用法如下例：歷史記載，第二次世界大戰快結束時，
